File Front
General NewsFileFront has been acquired by the original founders of the site and will NOT be suspended as previously announced. This is NOT an April Fool's Joke.

After learning about Ziff Davis Media's plan to suspend FileFront at the end of March, the original founders of FileFront made the decision to buy it back from Ziff Davis Media.

We're happy to announce to the gaming community that as of today, April 1st, 2009, FileFront is a completely independent company again and is no longer part of Ziff Davis Media. All previously suspended services should be active and working again. We thank Ziff Davis Media for their cooperation and willingness to keep the site and community alive.

Due to the very unfortunate timing of this event and related announcements on March 24th and April 1st (April Fool's Day), we'd like to make it perfectly clear that:

1) 1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront suspending its operation was NOT an early April Fool's joke.

2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.

3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.

4) We would NEVER suspend FileFront as an April Fool's joke.

5) We are happy to be back!

FileFront has existed in one form or another (originally as FileLeech and Voodoo Extreme's downloads) since 1997. In the last 12 years, FileFront has become the gaming community's most comprehensive and trafficked library hosting millions of files for thousands of games while requiring no registration and providing uncapped download speeds. We look forward to improving FileFront and serving the gaming community for years to come.

Welcome home. Game On!

Call of Duty: World at War v1.2 mod tools released
Call of Duty World At WarCall of Duty: World at War v1.2 mod tools released
by: Xcite
A new version of the mod tools for Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War has been released, providing modders and mappers with the tools needed to create mods and levels for singleplayer and multiplayer modes.

Issues fixed in version 1.2:

Custom models no longer crash the lighting process in Launcher.exe when compiling a map that contains a custom model.
Converter's "ERROR: dll version number does not match converter version" error has been resolved.
Launching "mp_usermaps" in the /mods directory no longer causes clients to be kicked when joining the host's game.

This is an incremental patch, so you will be required to have the original mod tools package and the previous patch in order to apply v1.2. Note that your video drivers and DirectX must be to be up to date before you update your mod tools.

The v1.2 patch weighs in at around 39MB and can be downloaded from one of the mirrors listed below.

Conficker Virus - April Fools
The Cheat PoliceIt could be the biggest April Fool's joke ever played on the internet, or it could be one of the worst days ever for computers connected to the network. Security experts can't work out whether the Conficker virus – which has infected more than 10m Windows PCs worldwide – will wreak havoc on Wednesday , or just let the day pass quietly.

Experts have worked out that from midnight on 1 April, the Conficker program will start scanning thousands of websites for a new set of instructions telling it what to do next. The infected machines thus comprise one of the biggest "botnets" – a network of "robot" computers – in internet history. And if they were all given a target, such as simultaneously sending search queries to Google or trying to connect to a gambling site, they could knock it offline through the sheer volume of connections – a "denial of service". Victims usually discover that they have been locked out of their computers or have very slow-running internet connections.

Botnets have been used in the past to generate millions of pieces of spam email and to blackmail gambling sites that need to stay online during sports events with the threat that they will be deluged by a "denial of service" attacks.

So keep your machines updated with the latest virus protection

Latest UK Division Stats
The Cheat Police

We have the latest news and updates from the UK Division. I firstly want to say a big thank you to all the UK staff that have devoted their time and efforts in investigating all allegations and complaints about cheats, hacks and trainers.

Listed below are the stats for February 2009:

Cheats: 70 logged - investigated: 70 - Banned: 69

Trainers: 4 logged - Investigated: 4 - Banned: 4

Hacks: 35 logged - Investigated: 35 - Banned: 15

The figures for February 2009 are down by 5%

Remember, the UK division will investigate all complaints and allegations. All figures came with evidence which was crucial in the banning of the suspected players. The team have worked around the clock to bring down the suspect players.

The figures are down because of the presence of the UK CP team in games. We are more noticable now than we were last month. It is evident that we are doing some good work in the field. The next stats on our work will be the end of March.

COD WW Patch Delay 1.3
Call of Duty World At WarHi all,

So our initial goal was to have an update for all platforms today. The Xbox 360 and PS3 had their TU, the Wii got some new gametypes, and the PC was going to receive Patch 1.3. By the way, the 1.3 hit list is:

/record and /demo enabled in MP.
Server Log File improvements, including:
Team Names on Kill loglines.
Round Win and Loss.
Timestamps.
Additional action logging (took flag, destroyed headquarters, planted bomb, etc).
Improved sound initialization for Vista - fixes loss of sound for audio devices set higher than 16 bit 48000 Hz.
Screenshots no longer overwrite each other.
Tweaked autobalance on select game modes.
Unfortunately, QA found an important issue in the eleventh hour of PC 1.3 testing, which we must tend to before we can release it. Thus, the release could not happen today.

It is important to note that our development process on these updates is parallel - that is - all teams are dedicated. So the console TU's releasing today does not reflect a prioritization of one sku over the other - both teams work completely independent of each other, and this time it happens to be the PC that has had an unexpected bug pop up last-minute.

That said, the PC team is working fervently to get the PC Patch 1.3 out the door as quickly as possible, without sacrificing quality.

We appreciate the patience and your continued feedback on 1.2. I'll keep you updated to the 1.3 progress as we learn more.

Regards,
-JD
